Music Review #4: Washed Out

feelitallaroundcover

There is a brand new artist that is making waves within the music circle and this artist is Washed Out. Ernest Greene is behind the artistic masterpiece that is Washed Out and he brings a new delicious sound that reminds the listener of all things ocean, such as the serenity of a private beach to the sea breeze tickling one’s face as his or her eyes are closed. There is a healthy quantity of 80s reverb evident on the drums and the soft vocals have a surreal aspect to them. Songs such as Feel it All Around transport the listener to  a surreal psychedelic landscape of peaceful serenity and worrilessness.

The most amazing aspect of Washed Out’s music is the fuzzy electro-nostalgic feeling it brings about upon one’s being. Ernest himself describes his music as having a laid-back 80s-throwback feel to it. The musical arrangements within the songs themselves are so simple, yet so captivating. The sounds feel so incredibly real and actual that the listener may feel as if he or she was instantly transported into this world that could have been. There are no worries in this world; no anger, no hatred, no agony…only blissful serenity. As nostalgic as the music may sound, it sounds surprisingly futuristic as being the sound of a post-modern utopia in which peace and love are truly the basis for all of humanity’s various actions and reactions. As relaxing of a vibe that exists within the beautiful harmonics of Washed Out, one can dance to it if he or she wishes to, since the music is dynamic enough to provide that wonderful opportunity. Whether you enjoy listening to Washed Out while gently swaying in a hammock by the shore or care to dance to a chilled out vibe on a Sunday afternoon, it’s all here.

Washed Out is a wonderful new musical style that is a breath of fresh air and a new direction in music that may see further artists adopting his unique style in the months and years to come. Whether you call it no-fi, chill wave, or something else, you cannot help but notice that this is a musical niche that has staying power within the music community of harmonics and may create a strong small, but loyal fanbase of music aficionados. The sounds are simply too beautiful to pass up. People who have listened to Washed Out have expressed everything from how it puts them into a trance to it giving them inspiration to produce similar-sounding music themselves.  You can take a listen to some of Washed Out’s tracks here.
